Sunil Gavaskar's 101 at Old Trafford - 1974
While we fans have our own list of the very best of the centuries of Sunny , the little master rates this one as something special as it was scored under very challenging conditions ......
Look at the sky....its overcast ...typical English weather ....swinging heavily. My favourites are :
1. 221 in Oval 2nd innings in 1979
2. 120 in Delhi vs mightly West Indies ( Marshall, Holding, Roberts etc ) in1984
3. 90 in Ahmedabad vs Windies in 1984
Sunny had also scored a century during the tour of 1976 to West Indies. At that time, Holding, Croft and Roberts were at the peak . These special knocks are not available on video...
Needless to mention, the final innings in Bangalore where he had to play a solo role on a minefield of a pitch is something outstanding ! Alas, India lost to Pakistan by 16 runs .......
